Create bulletin boards that are interesting and interactive for middle school students. The message board and current events bulletin boards are simple to make.

Bulletin boards are time consuming to make and sometimes do not seem like they are worth the time and effort. Use these ideas to start the year with interesting bulletin boards or to add thought provoking boards to a classroom any time of the year.

Create a Message Center

A bulletin board can become a message center. It is one of the easiest bulletin boards to create. Die cut the letters of "Message Center" and staple a colorful border to the board.

Most middle school students spend hours texting each other. Bulletin boards can be used for communication as well. However, use classroom bulletin boards to allow students to discuss lessons, novels or class projects. The discussion can be between students in one class or between students in different classes that a teacher has during the school day.

Send Messages About Class Topics

Use a bulletin board to allow them to send messages or to ask questions about content to other classes. For example, one morning class could post a question to an afternoon class. The morning class could ask if the afternoon class thought the ending to a novel was believable. Or, one student could post questions about a book that he or she is reading individually. The possibilities are endless.

The message center will need to be monitored by the teacher. Make sure to set the parameters early about school appropriate content and language.

Current Events Bulletin Board

This bulletin board can showcase any kind of news. It is another bulletin board that does not require a great deal of time from the teacher. Die cut the letters of "Current Events" and staple some interesting border to the board. On the computer, print off the words: international, national, state, local and school in a large size font. Staple those to the bulletin boards so that news clippings can be placed around the words.

Make sure to take a few minutes each week to discuss the current events in class. What makes this bulletin board great is that students can keep it current after the first one is made. The teacher can offer extra credit for students to bring in news clippings or assign students to bring in news stories throughout the year.

Bulletin boards are time consuming. The best part about these bulletin boards is that students will be responsible for keeping them current or changing the content. Once the bulletin boards are made at the beginning of the year, a teacher will not have to change them.
